Dear beneficiaries,
In the land of Iraq, located in the Diyala sector, a large environmental restoration project is being implemented. This report details recent efforts to replace 900 seedlings that died due to exposure to harsh sunlight and climate change.
background
The project aims to enhance reforestation efforts in the Diyala Al-Muqdadiya area in Baqubah Al-Khalis, and contribute to local biodiversity, soil stabilization, and community benefits by improving environmental conditions. The initial phase involved planting various seedlings, including an acacia tree, which was selected for its rapid growth and suitability to the local climate.
Problems encountered
Despite initial success in planting 2,000 seedlings, a serious problem arose due to unexpected harsh sunlight conditions that led to the death of 900 seedlings. This setback necessitated immediate action to ensure the continuity and success of the reforestation project.
Replacement efforts
To address the loss, a new batch of eucalyptus seedlings was planted. Replacement involves:
Site preparation: The planting area is prepared to improve conditions for new seedlings.
Seedling Selection: The replacement seedlings have been carefully selected to ensure they are resilient, healthy and able to withstand local climatic conditions.
Planting process: New seedlings were planted on Diyala Hill. The planting process was supervised by a local forestry expert in the environment and agriculture sector in Diyala to ensure that appropriate techniques were followed.
Impact and benefits
The replacement of 900 eucalyptus seedlings is expected to lead to several positive results:
Environmental Restoration: A total of 2,000 seedlings planted in Plot 7 will contribute to restoring the local ecosystem, enhancing biodiversity and providing habitats for various species.
Soil stabilization: Acacia trees are known for their deep roots, which help prevent soil erosion, a major concern in mountainous areas.
Community Benefits: The project supports the local community by providing resources such as timber and non-timber forest products for the future, along with improving the local climate.
Future plans
To ensure the long-term success of these reforestation efforts, ongoing monitoring and maintenance will be critical. Plans include:
Conduct regular inspections to monitor the health and growth of seedlings.
Continuing soil and water management practices including terracing rehabilitation.
Community engagement and education on sustainable forestry practices.
Conclusion
The replacement of 100 acacia tree seedlings in Diyala represents a crucial step in the reforestation project within the Muqdadiya sector. Through careful planning and implementation, this initiative is expected to overcome the initial challenges posed by the harsh sunlight and contribute significantly to environmental conservation and community development in the region.
Continued efforts and adaptive management will be key to ensuring the lasting success of this important project.
Best Regards
