Planting trees helps recover the depleted Rwandan terrain for current and future generations. Rwanda I is still considered the country of thousand hills, and this is the risk factor of soil degradation and erosion. Planting trees not only improves the land and soil to assist farmers with planting, but it also prevents natural disaster like land/mudslides from occurring.
The goal is to raise awareness on environmental degradation also to take concrete action to protect the environment. Those actions have mainly focused on 1) tree seedling production to assist in reforestation and 2) training local people which are focused on the environment: tree nursery techniques, climate change, and agro-forestry.
Apart from planting trees on the planned areas with high risk, the organizations will distribute these seedlings to their members as well as public gathering places around their respective communities such as schools and churches. These seedlings will be used to replenish space that is needed for either agroforestry or small community forests of approximately 10-15 hectares.
As we continue to work closely with our partners in rural Rwanda, the number of trees will that we plan to plant and share will keep increasing.
We take this opportunity to thank you for the support so far, but so much more to do! Your support even a little support is appreciated.
