Summary

Pro Eco Azuero is restoring Panama's Azuero Peninsula by planting 100,000 native trees through women-led nurseries and seed banks. These initiatives create jobs, income, and training while transforming women's roles as environmental leaders. More than work, they restore land, protect endangered species, and cultivate hope by nurturing biodiversity, water security, and resilient rural communities for generations to come.

Challenge

The jungle of Azuero Peninsula in Panama is facing severe deforestation, which has led to habitat loss for endangered species like the endemic Azuero Spider Monkey, soil degradation, and threats to it's biodiversity. Climate change exacerbates these problems, causing droughts and threatening the livelihoods of rural communities who rely on the land. Without immediate reforestation, these areas will continue losing vital ecosystem services, affecting wildlife and human populations.

Solution

Planting 100,000 trees restores biodiversity, improves soil and water cycles, and captures significant amounts of carbon. For the community, it creates jobs, provide training in sustainable land management and strengthens resilience against environmental and economic shocks. We also conduct essential biodiversity monitoring to track ecosystem health, guide restoration efforts, and provide measurable evidence of our impact while building local capacity and knowledge for long term conservation.

Long-Term Impact

Planting 100,000 trees will restore ecosystems and strengthen climate resilience across Panama's Azuero Peninsula. This effort regenerates habitats for endangered species, boosts biodiversity, and revitalizes soil and water systems, improving the wellbeing of over 5,000 rural residents. By capturing carbon, reforested landscapes combat climate change while creating lasting, nature-positive livelihoods through agroforestry, sustainable resource use, and community-led conservation.
