Summary

12,000 years ago humans started to farm. Since then, nearly half the world's forests have disappeared, and today we are facing, simultaneously, a global pandemic. and a devastating climate crisis. One of the quickest, most efficient, most cost effective ways to tackle climate change is by planting trees. (IPCC, August 2019) Reforesting 900 million hectares will capture 25% of the carbon in the atmosphere, help stabilize the climate, provide clean air and protect our water resources. Let's do it!

Challenge

Tropical rainforests are ground zero for the problem and the solution. Wholesale deforestation has led to degraded soils, loss of biodiversity, and severe stress on water resources. The "lungs of the world" are at the tipping point, and wildly erratic weather patterns affect everyone everywhere. Determined to restore the forest, our local community has planted thousands of trees to protect springs on eighty farms, but we cannot keep up with the demand. Funds are short and time is running out.

Solution

No trees, no water. No water, no life. Floods, wildfires, global pandemics, none of us is exempt, and we're all in this together. So we need to do two things. Understand that together we can change our reality. And then take action. Start with your network, spread the word, and encourage people everywhere to plant trees and save the planet. Lead by example. Plant a tree and share on social media. If you can't, we'll plant one for you. Our health and the health of our planet depend on it.

Long-Term Impact

In a time of crisis, let's remember that the planet is closed for repairs. But it's not too late to turn it around and we can rise above all this. If we get those trees into the ground, do you have any idea what will happen? We'll increase the fertility of our soils, provide habitat for wildlife, store all that carbon, help stabilize the climate, and ensure that we have clean air to breathe and pure water to drink. Nothing can be more important. Plant trees for water. Water for life. Are you in?
