An invitation to join us.....

Dear wonderful donors,

Eighteen months ago we launched Planting Trees to Save the Planet in response to growing concern worldwide about the climate crisis.

And thanks to you, dear donors, we have raised $70,000 – enough to plant thousands more trees. We couldn’t have done it without your generous support.

So now for the newsflash.

We’re embarking on a big new adventure, and we´d love to invite you to join us! As we have mentioned in previous letters from the field, we’ve been challenged to increase our forestry goal from 10,000 - 55,000 trees, and to consolidate our forestry programs.

So we’re folding this project into its sister project Forests4Water Community Climate Action (project number 22098) and focusing all our efforts on getting 55,000 trees into the ground by the end of 2022.

We´ll be working with community members to join existing forest fragments into one big beautiful forest corridor to store carbon, protect water, provide habitat for wildlife, and create jobs. How exciting is that? And it wouldn´t have happened without covid.

Wherever we live and whatever we do, covid19 forced us all to stop in our tracks, take stock and adapt our way of working.

Here at Iracambi it’s been hard losing the dozens of students and researchers who “normally” join us to work on the challenges of biodiversity conservation and sustainability. We never realized how much we would miss the hordes of excited schoolkids who have their first taste of rainforest science on our forest trails.

But, looking on the bright side, planting trees turns out to be the ideal socially distanced activity!

And we can’t sign off without expressing our deepest thanks to so many people.

To our forestry mentor, who challenged us to move WAY out of our comfort zone and expand our tree planting goal by a factor of five.

To the backroom boys and girls at GlobalGiving who kept our global community encouraged and supported during these difficult times.

And most of all to you, dear donors and supporters. Your generous donations kept us smiling on the rainiest and muddiest of days.

Happy Earth Week, everyone!

Its always Earth Day

Dear Rainforest Champions,

First of all we want to send you a big thank you for your amazing support to our tree planting activities. With your help. we´re restoring the magnificent Atlantic Rainforest, and every year we´re doing more and better.

And, in case you hadn´t noticed it yet....

This is the week!

It´s Climate Action Week, and we´re inviting you to join us in saying a big, collective Happy Birthday to Planet Earth!

And we´re working on the best present we can think of – our pledge to plant 55,000 trees by the end of next year.

ALL week, ALL donations are matched at 100% for the first $100!

This is the first time this has ever happened on this platform. Thank you, GlobalGiving!

And here´s an important note. The project that has been selected this year for the Climate Action Campaign is our sister program Forests4Water Community Climate Action so please make a donation there if you possibly can, because it will attract a match!

A quick word on our goal of planting 55,000 trees. Our extraordinary and wonderful forestry mentor challenged us to up our forestry goal substantially.

Why?

Because climate change won´t wait.

We accepted the challenge, and we´re on the case. We have the land, we have community interest, we've been working hard on fundraising, and all we need is more cash to finance making and buying in the seedlings, and paying for the labor costs of planting and maintaining the baby trees.

So how can you help?

There's a couple of different ways.
1. Make a donation if you can!

2. Spread the word among your friends, family, and colleagues, encouraging them to share our link on their networks and join you in donating.

Together we can get those trees planted, storing carbon, helping to mitigate the effects of global warming, extending habitat for rainforest animals, keeping zoonotic diseases where they belong, and doing our part to restore the earth.

Lets give Earth a present on her special day!

Happy Earth Day!

Hey there, friends, donors and supporters wherever you are on this beautiful earth!

We hope you are doing well and that you can finally see light at the end of the covid tunnel?

And we want to give you a special vote of thanks for your amazing support to our reforestry program. And to remind you that next week is Earth Day. It´s not just Earth Day, it´s Climate Action Week (April 19-23) so let´s get busy!

Because the climate crisis won´t wait.

And because the Earth does so much for us every minute of every day, we´d like to invite you to join us in giving her a big, beautiful present on her special day.

Can you guess what it is?

No, it´s not the sort of present that comes gift wrapped with a big bow. It´s more like the gift that keeps on giving.

Here´s the scoop. We´re going to plant, not 10,000, not 20,000, not 30,000 but 55,000 rainforest trees by the end of next year. All part of restoring the majestic Atlantic Forest.

Fifty acres of rainforest. Storing carbon, providing clean air and fresh water, restoring habitat for forest animals and helping keep zoonotic dieases where they belong. Because when we destroy habitat, we increase the likelihood of these diseases spreading to humans. And causing a catastrophic pandemic like covid19 that spreads around the world like wildfire.

Together we can restore the forest, mitigate the effects of global warming and help avoid the next pandemic. How cool is that?

One important headsup. The project that was selected to feature in this year´s Climate Action Campaign is Forests4Water and donations to that link will attract matching funding.
