This project is to improve the well-being of women, children and youth who travel long distance to fetch water as whole community by reducing the incidence of water and sanitation related diseases through provision of sustainable safe water, sanitation and hygiene practice to 1402 beneficiaries in mafubira sub county, wanyange village in Jinja distrct. Liveheed shall enhance that all people have safe and equitable access to a sufficient quality and quantity of water for drinking and domestic use
The existing situation in wanyange village which has 15000 population consequently, women and children spend up 1-2 hours per day fetching contaminated water that is inadequate in quantity to allow good hygiene to be practiced. The major existing problem for the health sanitation in the area is a combination of lack of sustainable access to adequate safe water supply. poor access to appropriate sanitation facilities and poor hygiene practices and thus being vulnerable to WASH related diseases.
To have the greatest impact, Liveheed Shall provide 7.1km of pipe line will be laid from source to the reservoir and all the way down to the intended communities. 200 demonstration pit latrines will be constructed and made functional in the village. Liveheed Youth shall provide training for each household in the community to equip them on knowledge and skills of mass hygiene and sanitation education on the use of personal hygiene, and environmental sanitation including hand-washing practices.
Liveheed Youth will work alongside the community for one year to ensure that we develop good household hygiene (hand washing, cleanses of cooking utensils,careful storage and management of drinking water and child hygiene care. The prevalence of water born and/or related diseases will be reduced. about 250 women and youth will get education about exposure to water related diseases from traditional water sources to ensure that all are empowered to take full access to clean safe water can bring.
