At the Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF), we are committed to responding to emergencies while empowering communities. Through our Disaster Relief & Humanitarian Aid initiative, we provide immediate support to communities affected by crises in Southeastern Nigeria.
Beyond emergency response, SOHF integrates long-term community empowerment through nutrition and skills development. Our Samony Wellness Cafeteria offers nutrients-dense fortified foods to support health, particularly for children and vulnerable populations affected by disasters.Meanwhile, our Samony Food Innovation & Training Hub (FIT-HUB) trains youth, women, and community members in food production, fortification, and sustainable nutrition practices, helping communities recover and build resilience even after disasters.
This dual approach ensures that relief is not only immediate but also sustainable, creating healthier, more empowered communities.
Project Activities During This Period
During this reporting period, we are grateful to report that we received $40.50 through GlobalGiving, and an additional $200 support from SOHF’s social impact initiative, bringing the total funding received to $240.50.
These funds were carefully used to support logistics and operational activities including:
• Transportation of relief materials to affected communities
• Supporting distribution of nutrients-dense fortified foods through the Samony Wellness Cafeteria
• Engaging community members in training sessions at FIT-HUB
• Coordination with local volunteers and partners to ensure safe delivery of aid
After completing these activities, the remaining balance stands at $0.50, which will be carried forward for upcoming interventions.
Even with modest funding, these actions have helped improve nutrition, provide essential support, and empower communities in crisis.
Challenges
While the project continues to make an impact, several challenges remain:
• Limited funding, which restricts the scale of both disaster relief and nutritional support
• Rising costs of food, logistics, and sanitary products
• Difficult access to remote or disaster-affected areas
• Social and economic barriers that prevent some families from accessing support
Despite these challenges, our commitment to empowering communities through immediate relief and sustainable nutrition programs remains strong.
Looking Ahead: The Little by Little Campaign
We are encouraged by the upcoming Little by Little Campaign (March 17 – March 20). This campaign offers a critical opportunity to raise funds, helping us expand both disaster relief efforts and the Samony Wellness Cafeteria programs.
Donations during this campaign, while matching funds remain, may receive matching funds, amplifying their impact. Even small contributions can help us:
• Deliver more nutrients-dense fortified foods to children and families
• Expand training sessions at the Samony FIT-HUB, empowering youth and women in food innovation and nutrition
• Strengthen disaster preparedness and community resilience
Little by little, together, we can create lasting change.
Next Steps
Once additional funding is received, we plan to:
• Scale up distribution of nutrients-dense fortified foods to disaster-affected communities
• Conduct more hands-on training at FIT-HUB to teach sustainable food preparation and fortification
• Expand awareness campaigns on nutrition and hygiene
• Engage local stakeholders to build long-term community resilience
These actions will ensure that relief and empowerment go hand-in-hand, creating sustainable impact for both children and adult community members.
Gratitude to Our Supporters
We extend heartfelt appreciation to every donor, supporter, and advocate who believes in our mission.
Your contributions ensure that families receive immediate relief while also benefiting from sustainable nutrition and skills training.
We also thank GlobalGiving for connecting grassroots initiatives like ours with compassionate supporters worldwide, enabling us to respond effectively while building long-term community resilience.
Special thanks to SOHF’s social impact initiative for their generous contribution of $200, which has helped expand the reach of this project.
Call to Action
Disasters disrupt lives, but together we can restore hope, health, and opportunity.
By supporting this project and the Samony Wellness Cafeteria and FIT-HUB initiatives, donors empower communities to:
• Access life-saving relief during emergencies
• Receive nutritionally fortified foods to support health and growth
• Gain skills in sustainable food production and fortification
Every donation helps ensure that vulnerable populations not only survive crises but thrive afterward.
Little by little, we can transform communities into healthier, empowered, and resilient spaces.
Closing Reflection
The individuals and communities we serve are resilient and hopeful. By providing immediate disaster relief, nutritionally fortified foods, and hands-on food innovation training, we help them rebuild lives, restore dignity, and create brighter futures.
Even modest donations can create meaningful impact. With your support, we can deliver immediate aid, improve nutrition, and empower communities through skills development.
Together, we can ensure that Southeastern Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations are supported today and empowered for tomorrow.
With gratitude and hope,
Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF)
