We are excited to share the progress of our maternal and infant health initiatives across Haiti, South Sudan, and Uganda - made possible by your unwavering support. With some of the highest maternal and neonatal mortality rates in the world, these regions urgently need sustainable, life-saving interventions, and thanks to you, we are making meaningful strides.
As mentioned in our previous update, one of the key milestones in this initiative was the delivery of five life-saving ‘mOm’ incubators to Justinien University Hospital (JUH) in Cap-Haitien, the largest public hospital in northern Haiti. These incubators provide essential warmth and care for premature and at-risk newborns. Soon after arrival, hospital staff completed their training, and the incubators were immediately put to use - welcoming their very first baby just before Christmas!
In Kajo-Keji, South Sudan, where maternal healthcare remains critically under-resourced, New Hope Kajo-Keji Health Centre is providing accessible, high-quality care for mothers and newborns. When we met Viola, she was two months pregnant and experiencing worrying pain. She had walked an hour to reach our clinic. HHA’s wonderful midwife Josephine treated her, registered her, and was able to provide her with regular antenatal consultations thereafter, as well as essential supplements and malaria prevention support – all of which is sadly an incredible rarity in this region. Thanks to this consistent compassionate care, Viola’s pregnancy progressed without further complications – and we’re delighted to share that last month, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl!
Moments like this are a testament to the power of accessible, quality maternal care, ensuring that more mothers can experience safe pregnancies and more newborns get the strongest start in life. Thank you for being a vital part of this mission. We look forward to sharing more updates soon!
