South African teens growing up in marginalized communities can propel themselves and their families out of generations of poverty and into the middle class in one generation - if they finish 12th grade and go to college. As part of our Infinite Family, you provide wrap-around support and structures that allow teens to not only improve their prospects at school but, critically, beyond that, in work and life. You provide the tech access and support they need to succeed in the 21st century.
For most South African teens, access to computers and internet is not the reality. But poverty, endemic violence, substandard schools, and toxic stress are part of their daily lives. Without the tools, resources and support that their commuities cannot provide, only 14 in 100 students will complete high school and qualify for college/university. Only a couple will finish the advanced studies that allow them to get a good, upwardly mobile job that breaks their cycle of poverty and violence.
Infinite Family's LaunchPads (tech centres) in township communities offer teens access to computers and the internet to study, do homework, research jobs and conduct weekly mentoring sessions with their Mentors. Despite difficult lives, we've seen hundreds of despondent teens turn into focused and motivated students. Once they can access educational tools and resources, and learn from an adult who offers them guidance and support, they see new possibilities and work hard to make them a reality.
Your support for teens though Infinite Family and GlobalGiving means they are four times more likely to finish high school. Furthermore, 98% of 12th graders on the Infinite Family program since 2008 have qualified for college/university and begun to build lives with stable jobs that make them role models in their communities. Your support keeps teens in school and prepares them for success in school, work and life!
