Summary of Work Done
Thanks to the support received through GlobalGiving, Fundación Azulado has
continued its efforts to prevent child sexual abuse and maltreatment in Ecuador.
Over the past year, we implemented the "Mi Escudo" prevention program in a
school with approximately 1,000 children, located in a low-income community.
Through this intervention, we worked with students, teachers, and families to
strengthen their knowledge and skills in child protection.
One of the most inspiring stories from this year is that of Sofía, an 11-year-old
girl who, after participating in the program, identified a risky situation and knew
who to turn to for help. Her courage and the knowledge she gained through "Mi
Escudo" were fundamental to her safety.
Key Results
Children’s Training: 1,000 students participated in the educational
sessions of "Mi Escudo," learning self-protection strategies and
strengthening their self-esteem and assertiveness. Through play-based
methodologies, children internalized key self-protection concepts in a
dynamic and effective way. Using interactive activities, role-playing, and
storytelling, they learned to identify risky situations, set personal
boundaries, and seek help from trusted adults. By the end of the
program, 85% of the children could identify at least three warning signs
and knew where to go in case of danger.
Teacher Training: 40 teachers were trained to implement the program,
equipping them with tools and methodologies to foster safe and
supportive learning environments. Each trained teacher has the potential
to impact hundreds of children throughout their career.
Family Participation: Workshops were held for over 300 parents and
caregivers, focusing on positive parenting practices and child abuse
prevention at home. More than 90% of participants reported feeling more
prepared to discuss safety topics with their children.
Long-Term Impact
The results reinforce the effectiveness of "Mi Escudo" in educating and raising
awareness about child abuse prevention. Our intervention not only provides
children with key knowledge but also empowers parents and teachers to act as
protective agents. Previous research conducted by Universidad San Francisco
de Quito has demonstrated that children who participate in the program retain
self-protection knowledge in the long term, strengthening their safety and well-
being.
How You Can Continue Helping
Thanks to donations like yours, we have been able to impact the lives of
thousands of children and families. However, many more communities still need
our support.
Gratitude
We deeply appreciate the donors and the GlobalGiving community for their
continued support. Thanks to your contribution, we continue to build safer and
more protective communities for children in Ecuador. We hope to expand our
impact and reach more children and families in the coming year. Your help is
essential to achieving this goal. Let’s keep changing lives together!
