Last week we celebrated our annual Festa Junina at the Julio Otoni Center!
June in Brazil means Festa Junina throughout the country. Festa Junina stands for June Festival, and is the equivalent of Midsummer festivals across Europe and the United States. Originally a festivity of the semi-arid Northeastern Brazil, it celebrates the rainy season and agricultural harvest.
Celebrated across the entire country, children and adults wear countryside costumes, eat traditional snacks made of corn and play games such as fishing and hoop throwing, all accompanied with Forró, a typical music of the Northeast, and Quadrilha, which is similar to squaredancing!
Here are some photos from this year’s event.
