The story of football players born in Favelas that have become famous represents a very strong symbol of social mobility in Brasil. Every poor kid leaving in a favela pursue this dream. This means that visiting a favela in every space possible you will find children playing.
At Julio Otoni Community Center we always search for partnerships that can provide sports for children. For many years we had capoeira and that was very popular. This years, through a partnership with the British Council, we have football. With the presence of a coach kids learn discipline, cooperation and responsibilities. They learn also to allow girls in equal conditions with the boys.
British Counciul, which is popular for the teaching of English in Brasil, and accross the world, is also providing English classes which kids assist with interest considering that they want to travel abroad, especially to meet their friends, young foreigners that have worked as volunteers at Julio Otoni. Through these two activities it is possible to teach people so many other things which are critical to their lives.
