As of December 2024, the Cuidarte Program, a community-based and family-based program for comprehensive early childhood care in Arraiján, has been implemented for 21 months. This report corresponds to the second half of year 2 of its implementation.
It is important to note that during the 34-week implementation period covered by this report—from June 1 to December 26, 2024—home visits and support for mothers and caregivers of infants have been completed. A total of 9,681 visits have been made, representing 95% of the Cuidarte Program's expected goal. 250 of the 300 beneficiaries have received between 85% and 100% of the care.
There are still significant challenges related to ensuring the provision of health services, combating poverty and malnutrition, as well as other needs identified during the reporting period, which are being addressed with the commitment of the institutions involved in the Local Network.
Through inter-institutional action between the Ministry of Health (MINSA) and the Social Security Fund, pending vaccinations have been completed for some beneficiaries of the Cuidarte Program in the Veracruz district during the Community Educational Meetings held in October.
For this period, we emphasize that, in close coordination with the Ministry of Health, we have already ensured that these beneficiaries are receiving the health and nutrition services required for child development. Monitoring is being conducted with MIDES, which has selected an initial group of mothers participating in the Cuidarte Program who must receive the SENAPAN Program and who have met the eligibility requirements.
It is also important to highlight that the supervisors conducted 138 supervisory visits to community outreach workers during the reporting period to ensure the quality of services and continuous improvement to achieve the objectives of the Cuidarte Program.
During the reporting period, 56 weekly meetings were held. The Fondo Unido team in Panama also constantly monitors and provides recommendations on the progress of the Cuidarte Program to meet its 26 Quality Standards.
The Fourth Community Educational Meeting was attended by 167 beneficiaries, where participants received awareness about emotional health and an informative talk about the services offered by the National Commission for the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation Crimes (CONAPREDES). This report also includes assessments of the Child Development Milestones.
In conclusion, the Cuidarte Program has had a positive impact on comprehensive early childhood care in Arraiján and continues to strengthen the local support network.
