At sixty-one, Kasturi lives with her family in a rural village, managing daily life with very limited financial security.
Even though government pension schemes exist to support her, the path to getting one is often blocked by low awareness, outdated documents, and a lack of digital access. For families already navigating hardship, being left out like this doesn’t just cause financial strain—it weakens their trust in the institutions meant to serve them.
During a routine outreach visit, our partner’s team met Kasturi and registered her through their resilience support platform. That first conversation revealed that she fully qualified for the Old Age Pension scheme; she simply needed a guide to help her navigate the process.
The team worked closely by her side, helping her update her identification records, verify her documents, and submit an accurate application. Just as importantly, they sat with her and her family to explain her rights. It wasn’t just about filling out a form; it was about making sure she understood how to access wider protection in the future.
The barriers Kasturi faced—limited mobility and unfamiliarity with complex government processes—are common in remote areas, particularly amongst the migrant community. By addressing these obstacles step by step, the team ensured she wasn’t navigating the system alone. Their approach combined practical help with genuine reassurance, helping restore her confidence to engage with public services again.
In November 2025, Kasturi received her first pension payment of six hundred rupees. While the amount is modest, it has created a dependable source of income for her essentials, like food and medicine.
More than the financial support, this experience affirmed her right to the protections designed for her. For Kasturi and her family, it has marked a renewed sense of stability. Her journey shows how simple, community-based outreach can close the gap between policy and reality. When support is delivered with care and respect, older community members are finally able to claim their rights.
Thank you for your support.
