Camp Renovations at iMfolozi
Dear Wildlife ACT Family,
We hope that your year has started off beautifully and that there are exciting things for you on the horizon. Something exciting on our side is that after many years of making do with some tricky camp infrastructure, we are delighted to share news of important renovations that have transformed our iMfolozi camp.
One of the most significant changes has been the relocation and redesign of the toilets. Previously positioned too close to the living area, they are now far more private, allowing the communal space to open up beautifully. The result is a lighter, more spacious living area with room to breathe, improved bird-watching opportunities, and easier access to The Rock that has always been such a special feature of camp.
We have also added two new rooms dedicated to research and management, creating much-needed space to support the work happening on the ground. In addition, the Black Rhino Monitoring Team now have their own excellent space next to camp, better suited to the demands of their critical field operations.
Mbuzane continues to be a place with a truly special sense of community, and the recent improvements have enhanced this even further. A new fire pit now anchors the space, while improved drainage and a refreshed garden at the entrance make arrival at camp feel welcoming and cared for. Practical issues have also been addressed, including the steps to the second bedroom, which many will remember as being a little awkward, and are now safely and comfortably fixed.
Photographs can’t fully capture the magic of this place, but they do help to visualise the new space and the care that has gone into these upgrades.
We look forward to welcoming you back to iMfolozi one day, so you can experience these changes and the spirit of the new camp, for yourself.
On the Emergency Response Front, we are happy to say that the year has started off fairly well with less emergencies than usual, we're praying it stays this way. We'll do an ERF annual update at the next quarterly report.
May you all have a very special first quarter.
Best wishes,
Pippa and the Wildlife ACT Team.
