We are ready for a new nesting season in 2026.

As the 2026 nesting season begins, our team is fully prepared to return to the beaches and continue protecting sea turtles throughout the Yucatán Peninsula. Every year, this period marks the beginning of months of intensive fieldwork, community engagement, and constant monitoring to ensure that nesting females, eggs, and hatchlings have the best possible chance of survival.

April 6 marked the first day of the monitoring season. We began with a workshop to welcome both new and returning field technicians, review monitoring protocols, and check all field equipment before teams departed to install sea turtle camps in Celestún, El Cuyo, and Holbox.

During the months leading up to the season, we worked to prepare all vehicles for beach monitoring, organize data collection materials, and coordinate with local authorities to ensure we are ready to respond as soon as the first turtles arrive.

Throughout the 2026 season, our team will conduct nightly beach patrols, monitor nesting activity, protect vulnerable nests, relocate eggs when necessary, and document important biological data. We will also continue working with local communities to strengthen awareness about the importance of protecting nesting beaches, with the help of our valuable volunteers.

The support of GlobalGiving donors makes this work possible. Thanks to your contributions, we are able to prepare before the season begins and ensure that our team has the tools and resources needed to protect sea turtles from the very first nest.
