Pets are often silent victims in abusive homes — used as tools of control or punishment. But because of your generosity, Leo’s story has a very different ending.
Leo is the beloved furbaby of Kelly, an American woman who bravely escaped her abusive husband in Morocco. After enduring years of violence, Kelly finally found the courage to reach out for help. She worked with the American Embassy to secure a repatriation loan so she could return home, but due to a federal government shutdown, the process was slow — and the loan didn’t cover the cost of bringing home her cherished dog.
Kelly was heartbroken. She knew that leaving Leo behind would almost certainly mean abuse, or worse.
That’s when she found Pathways. When we told her we could cover the costs of Leo’s relocation — including his airplane carrier, veterinary health certificate, and flight — she could hardly believe it. After countless pleas to other organizations for help, this was the first time someone said “yes.”
Because of donors like you, Pathways can respond to unique and urgent needs like Kelly’s — protecting not only survivors, but also the beloved companions who mean the world to them. Thank you for helping ensure Leo’s days are now filled with love, safety, and joy.
