Challenge
The Colombian healthcare system is facing a prolonged crisis, characterized by persistent inequities in the provision of healthcare services, particularly for children. Despite numerous attempts at reform, the situation has not improved significantly. Children in temporary care are particularly affected by this situation, as the general health plan covers only basic exams and medications. Neglect of children has been on the rise in Colombia in recent years, and the healthcare system has failed to provide adequate care to children in temporary care.
In the past year, the CRAN Foundation has faced a significant increase in complex health situations among the children in its care. Currently, four of them are hospitalized and receiving specialized medical treatment, which requires not only clinical care but also comprehensive support to ensure their physical and emotional well-being.
These situations have generated extraordinary expenses associated with:
A. Specialized medications (respiratory and psychiatric)
B. Daily care supplies
C. Transportation for accompaniment
D. Basic supplies during hospitalization
E. Ongoing care provided by the caregiving team
