In Nigeria, unsafe water causes over 70,000 child deaths yearly from diarrhea and related diseases. Many poor families in rural and displaced communities drink contaminated water because they cannot afford treatment. A single bottle of Water Guard can purify 1,000 liters, keeping a family safe for one month. This project will supply Water Guard bottles to families most at risk, protecting children and saving lives where clean water is urgently needed.
Waterborne diseases remain a leading killer of children in Nigeria. Many villages and displaced communities rely on open wells, rivers, and rusty boreholes, which often cause diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid. Families cannot afford commercial water treatment, and boiling water is not always possible due to cost of firewood. Without affordable treatment like Water Guard, preventable deaths continue, and children remain the most vulnerable.
The project will purchase and distribute Water Guard bottles to families in rural areas and IDP camps. Each bottle purifies 1,000 liters of water, enough for a family for one month. Trained volunteers will teach families simple steps to use it effectively. This practical intervention will reduce waterborne infections, keep children healthier, and allow families to drink and cook with safe water every day.
Regular access to treated water will lower child mortality rates from diarrhea and related diseases. Families will spend less on hospital bills, easing financial stress. In the long run, healthier children will miss fewer school days, parents will remain productive, and entire communities will be less burdened by preventable illness. A low-cost bottle of Water Guard can create lasting change in households where clean water is scarce.
