Gizachaw's Story

Gizachaw Before Surgery
Gizachaw Before Surgery

In March, one-year-old Gizachaw arrived at our programme at Gamby hospital. He arrived with his mother, seeking treatment for his cleft condition. He is the fourth child and is the first in his family to have a cleft condition. When Gizachaw's mother registered him at their local health centre, the local health worker told her about an upcoming Project Harar programme.

Gizachaw's mother shared her experience with us; 'When Gizachaw was born with a cleft, I was very confused and depressed about his condition. Because of his cleft, I was crying all the time, and people would ask me about his condition and what has caused it.'

'When my community asked about Gizachaw's condition, and why I haven't taken him to the hospital, I told them that I can't afford to treat him and that this sort of treatment is not in my budget.'

'When I arrived at Gamby Hospital, I saw so many children with cleft conditions, all with the hope to be treated on that day. This treatment given to my child is good. I am happy with the treatment my child has received and I hope that others who have hidden in rural areas will hear about Project Harar's work and get the treatment they need.'
