Rajasthan Samagra Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS India) is pleased to share a update from our recent Nutrition Support Initiative for slum and street-connected children. In response to the levels of child week health in underserved urban slums communities, our dedicated team organized the distribution of delicious, protein-rich meals across 12 identified slums. Over 300 vulnerable children directly benefited from this intervention. Each meal was carefully designed to address protein deficiency and included eggs, milk, bread, seasonal fruits, jam, and other nutritious supplements ensuring both nourishment and taste. The initiative not only addressed immediate hunger but also strengthened community trust and engagement.
A unique and sustainable feature of this intervention was community-led preparation. The protein meals were freshly prepared within the slum communities by RSKS team members, ensuring hygiene, cultural acceptability, and transparency. Importantly, families of beneficiary children were actively trained in preparing affordable, protein-rich meals using locally available ingredients. Mothers participated enthusiastically in hands-on cooking sessions, learning practical techniques to enhance nutritional value in daily diets. This approach ensures long-term behavioral change beyond one-time distribution.
To deepen awareness, children participated in interactive nutrition education sessions. Using colorful flipcharts and educational cards, our team explained the importance of protein in growth, immunity, brain development, and overall health. Children eagerly engaged in question-answer activities, learning how foods like eggs and milk help them become “strong and smart.” This child-friendly learning method transformed a meal distribution drive into an empowering health education campaign.
