This project provides life-saving medical care and support for disabled people living with HIV+ in the urban slums of Mararaba and Masaka in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Over 90% lack wheelchairs, face hospital rejection due to stigma and inaccessible facilities. Most have no formal education about HIV risks, leading to unintended transmission. We will provide free healthcare, wheelchairs, language-specific HIV education, and stigma-free mobile clinics to save lives and prevent further spread.
In Nigeria's urban slums, disabled people with HIV+ face extreme rejection due to stigma and impairments. Most never received HIV education, unknowingly transmitting the virus. Without care, they suffer preventable deaths while facing isolation. Illiteracy and language barriers worsen their vulnerability. This crisis demands urgent intervention to provide medical care, mobility aids, and inclusive education to stop needless suffering and HIV spread among Nigeria's most marginalized population.
This project addresses the crisis by providing free medical care and wheelchairs to disabled people with HIV+ in urban slums, removing physical barriers to treatment. We deliver HIV education in local languages to stop transmission and establish stigma-free mobile clinics where patients receive dignified care. With integrated healthcare access, mobility assistance, and education, we prevent unnecessary deaths while breaking the cycle of HIV spread among Nigeria's most vulnerable populations.
This work will change lives beyond immediate care. As more disabled people receive treatment and wheelchairs, fewer will suffer from preventable complications. HIV education in local languages will slow new infections over time. The stigma-free clinics won't just treat patients-they'll shift community attitudes about disability and HIV. With continued support, this model can grow to reach more slums, proving that everyone deserves healthcare, no matter their ability or status.
