Dear Supporters,
We would like to share a story that shows how community support can help restore peace and dignity in families.
Neeta (name changed), a 45-year-old woman from a rural tribal village in southern Rajasthan, lives with her husband. Their three children are grown and have families of their own. However, Neeta’s life had become very difficult as her husband struggled with alcohol addiction and often suspected her of having a relationship with another man. This led to frequent arguments and distress at home.
Feeling helpless, Neeta reached out to a leader of the Women Resource Centre (WRC) - a village- level support group for women facing domestic challenges, supported and trained by Seva Mandir. After listening to her, two WRC members visited the village and spoke with the ward panch (an elected village representative). Together with a few respected community members, including an Anganwadi worker, they met Neeta’s husband to discuss the situation.
They calmly explained that continued conflict would only harm the family and that the matter could be taken to the police if the harassment continued. After this discussion, Neeta’s husband reflected on his actions, apologized, and promised to stop troubling her. He also committed to giving up alcohol.
With the support of the WRC and the community, the couple agreed to resolve their differences and begin again. Neeta felt relieved knowing she was not alone. Having a support system for women is very critical not only in urban but for tribal women as well.
We are also happy to share that Seva Mandir will be participating in GlobalGiving’s Little by Little Campaign from 17–20 March 2026. During this campaign, eligible donations up to $50 will be matched at 50%, while matching funds remain, allowing every contribution to go even further.
Thank you for standing with us and helping make such support systems possible.
With Gratitude,
Team Seva Mandir
