DR TB Patients Struggle to Access Treatment

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for the interest shown in the Provide Treatment for Drug Resistant TB Patients project. At this moment, no financial contributions have been received, so the treatment support program has not yet begun.

Drug resistant tuberculosis is one of the most difficult forms of TB to treat. Patients often require long courses of medication, regular medical supervision, and careful follow up. For many people living in poverty in Nigeria, the cost of diagnosis and treatment makes proper care almost impossible to obtain.

When patients cannot access treatment early, the disease becomes more severe and may spread to others within their families or communities. Missed doses of medication, lack of medical supervision, and fear of stigma can also make recovery more difficult. Without proper care, some patients face serious complications or even loss of life.

This project plans to support individuals diagnosed with drug resistant TB by providing free diagnosis, medication, and medical monitoring. Transportation support and follow up visits will help patients attend clinic appointments and remain on treatment throughout the recovery period.

Community health workers will also assist with home visits and counseling so patients understand the importance of completing their medication and protecting others from infection. Continuous care will help patients regain their health while reducing the spread of the disease.

Access to proper treatment gives patients a chance to recover and return to their families and communities. Early diagnosis and consistent care can also help reduce the number of new infections and improve public health in vulnerable areas.

We appreciate the attention this initiative has received and remain hopeful that support will grow so that treatment services can begin for those who urgently need help.

Sincerely,

Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
