The project will benefit 200 children and their families that live in Ecuador in the coast areas that was severely affected by the 7.8 earthquake occurred the last April 16th in Ecuador. Through training Juconi will provide specific tools to technicians and people that are involved in the care o strengthen child psychological protection in order to prevent trauma.
A sudden tragic event, may become a psychological trauma only after some time of the disaster. Detection of traumatic symptoms (nightmares, flashbacks, etc.) will be considered as post-traumatic stress after 3 months after the event. Children must be protected, it is important to take care of their emotional ties to prevent severe trauma after a disaster like an earthquake.
Training technicians and staff involved in the children protection process who have been affected by the earthquake. Objectives of the Workshops: - Orientate about how to manage stress after a disaster with children/families. - Identify potential risks for children - Establish special techniques and an action plan for intervention. - Intervention that will focus in 3 main aspects: *The quality care that people receive. * Protection of attachment relationships *Empowering survivors
The project will benefit 30 people from the local staff of the province of Esmeraldas and 200 children and their families from Muisne City that survived the earthquake. The staff will be ready to know how to proceed in similar events in the future, how to assist the actual children and families through their recovery time and stages. The children and their families will have professional guidance , intervetion and support during the stages of their physical and emotional recovery.
