Summer Activities at Voices of Children in Kyiv

By Sarah Slimp | Partnership Development Manager

What a Summer It’s Been! Over the past three months in Kyiv, Voices of Children has continued to grow its psychological and psychosocial programs for children and families living through the war.

A major highlight this season was the launch of construction for Ukraine’s first Psychological Rehabilitation Center in the village of Dzvinkove. During the June groundbreaking ceremony, guests placed a symbolic time capsule filled with wishes for children’s futures. Scheduled to open in August 2026, this one-of-a-kind center will welcome over 1,000 children and parents each year. It will provide therapy, sensory integration rooms, art and play spaces, and residential facilities for families in need of long-term recovery, as well as train urgently needed psychologists and recreation specialists across Ukraine.

Alongside this milestone, our Kyiv center remained full of life and activity. In these last three months, we helped 840+ beneficiaries at our Kyiv Center!  We extended the “Time of Upgrade” teen group, giving young people a safe space to connect, share, and grow. In June and July, we organized 12 summer intensives and creative workshops (both in Kyiv and in nearby villages) bringing psychological care to children who often have little access to such support. Families also participated in therapy sessions and parent programs, building strength and resilience together.

One story this summer reminded us just how far our work can reach. A mother shared that her teenage son, feeling overwhelmed, had turned to an AI chatbot for advice. The chatbot recommended he see a psychologist and suggested our foundation as an option. Curious, his mother explored our website, learned about our approach, and soon brought her son to Voices of Children. It is inspiring to see that, even in unexpected ways, children are finding their path to care and healing.

The summer was also enriched by inspiring partnerships and special events that gave children joy, creativity, and new role models to look up to:

  • With the support of the President’s Office and the “Bring Kids Back” project, children met singer Jerry Heil and world-renowned tennis player Elina Svitolina.

  • More than 50 children joined creative activities with the Gonchar Museum during the Protasiv Yar Festival.

  • Ubisoft hosted a children’s event, while game producer Yevhen Skachkov gave a special lecture.

  • The Cultural Connection Project visited our Kyiv center, where filming took place for a Netflix documentary by an Italian director.

These experiences gave children the chance to create, dream, and connect with inspiring figures—powerful complements to the psychological care and therapy they receive at our centers.

All of these achievements are possible because of your support. Every therapy session, every creative workshop, and every joyful meeting helps children rediscover what it means to feel safe and hopeful. By standing with us, you are not only helping children today, but you are investing in the future of Ukraine. From all of us at Voices of Children, thank you!
