Dear respected partner,
It is the quarterly report, on raising income for 70 single mom’s living in addis Ababa, Ethiopia slum.
Yengat Birhan Charity Organization women’s support program, as you know it is working by focusing marginalized families especially on single mothers who are struggling to support their children. The main support areas includes: supporting women in income generating activities by arranging the weekly meeting; saving money for improve or start their business, giving information on health and guidance in their needs.
Currently, the organization is working to assist 58 underserved women to engage in income generating activities because some mothers left the group by their own reason through time.
The raising income for 70 single mom’s living in Addis Ababa project is continuing the implementation of the ongoing activities of the project during the COVID 19 era too. In fact we couldn’t able providing like training or big meeting to them as we planned as usual but we could assist them to made their weekly meetings on open air and providing other kinds of timely support like food items.
Activities performed in this quarter related to income generating activities were:
The women able to discuss on the weekly meeting on open air for one hour on their problem and its solutions
Perform weekly saving that help to engage and to improve in income generating activities by using it as startup capital, so as to improve the family income and life.
One of the mother/ members started new job in our office as a cook for our 80 school children snack.
All of the ongoing activities under the economic empowerment division in this quarter were going well in spite of the current challenge, COVID 19. The entire four groups called: Tesfa Lenge, Yenge Fery, Edget Lefray, and Edget Behbret saved on their weekly meeting from 5-10 birr for the last three months. Their saving helped them to initiate them to engage in businesses activities and to improve their small businesses. Many mothers’ improves their business by taking loan from the group capital in this quarter too.
In this quarter because of COVID 19 burden we could provide the following items for 58 women’s, each: wheat flour 5kg, oil 1 liter, pasta 2 piece, tea bag 1 (100gm), life by soap 8 piece, face mask, 2 piece. They are very happy and thankful for what they have received since most of them were not able to get job as a daily laborer.
As mentioned above it is our long time plan, improving the living condition of 58 female headed families residing in the slum community of Yeka sub-city, Wereda 08 to improve the family livelihood, but we are forced to wait long since the organization does not have the capacity to give training that equipping them to start and to be successful on business. The training, Basic Business skill Training will take five days.
Thus, we encouraging you to support us regularly to bring changes in life of 58 women and their family. .
A very small support which we gave to the mothers to engaged in income generating actvities help the life of the family to live better.
Thank you for all contribution to share our load in changing mothers and children life!
With Regards!
