Project Tittle: Addressing the issue of marginalized Women through innovative family development intervention.
Quarterly Narrative Report from May to Aug, 2026

Introduction and Overview Yengat Birhan Charity Organization making an effort to uplifting underserved women in the project area by enhancing their skills, promoting economic self-sufficiency, and offering comprehensive support.
The organization focuses on moms particularly on vulnerable groups such as single mothers who led households, tackling key issues related to financial insecurity and health. Its primary areas of intervention include: • Livelihood Development, Health Awareness, Crisis Support, Yengat Birhan Charity Organization is committed to strengthening women’s autonomy by promoting sustainable economic growth, encouraging inclusive participation, and prioritizing health education. During the months May -August,2026, the project accomplished different tasks as describes below: Economic Empowerment The ongoing activities under the economic empowerment division were more focused on the socio economic of the mothers/women. We planned on empowering a total of 20 mothers under Economic Empowerment to make changes in the mothers and on their family’s life mainly on the economic part, by assisting the women to engaged in income generating activity so as to improve the families’ incomes.
The project is now working with 26 school children’s moms in order to help them in income generating activities as we have got some additional support from Donors. We did intensive investigation with each 51 student moms’ to identifying their interest and current ability to engage in income generating activities to select the very need and potential new 26 women (six to take vocational training and to look for job or to start small business after taking training on basic business) and to do follow up to their ongoing income generating activities for those who already started businesses earlier. A total of 26 mothers were selected to participate in the IGA program. Of these participants, 21 mothers successfully attended a five-full day Basic Business Skills Training. The training covered key topics including entrepreneurship, business planning, financial management, customer relations, savings, and small business management. To ensure participants remained engaged throughout the training, tea breaks and lunch were provided each day. After the effective participation in the training, we provided each 21 mothers a certificate of completion. After completion of the training each 21 mothers received 30,000 ETB as seed money to start their small business. The remaining 6 mothers expressed interest in vocational skills will take training in areas that match their abilities and future business plans.
The organization is currently processing their enrollment into appropriate vocational training institutions. These mothers will receive the necessary training before proceeding to the next phase of the program. Upon successful completion of the required training, each of the 6 mothers will receive the remaining money out of ETB 30,000 as seed capital to start or expand their selected income-generating activities. The organization has developed a follow-up and monitoring plan to ensure the effective implementation of the IGA program. Regular field visits will be conducted to monitor each beneficiary's business progress, provide guidance and mentoring, identify challenges, and offer appropriate support.
Through community-centered approaches and by addressing systemic barriers, the organization fosters resilience, leadership, and long-term positive change in the lives of women and their families. Yengat Birhan works through an integrated support system, to reduce vulnerabilities, including those related to medical expenses. By leveraging community-based solutions, strategic partnerships, and innovative interventions, the organization builds resilience and creates sustainable pathways for growth, learning, and overall well-being, ensuring long-term impact for both children and their moms. Health Education Health education sessions were conducted to the mom’s group to strengthen mothers’ knowledge of preventive healthcare and overall family well-being. The sessions emphasized on cervical cancer to equipped mothers with the skills and information needed to them.
Organizational Management, Yengat Birhan has been strengthening its organizational capacity, by asking professionals assistance to give us a volunteer service on different issues. As we all know, YBCO has 7 board members and responsible for the overall strategic direction and organizational policy. The Board of directors, executive director and other members who elected as a member expected to participate on the meeting and decision.
Obstacle / constraints during the implementation of the project, the organization encountered challenges that affected the smooth delivery of planned activities.one of the challenges was the continuous rise of goods due to inflation. This reduced the purchasing power of the allocated budget, making it difficult to meet all planned targets within the available resources. Another challenge was limited number of staff members which made the small team to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. This affected the efficiency and timeliness of few services’ delivery.
Lessons Learnt: The staff shortage during this period shows that fundraising has to be done as one of the important activities in order to provide a better support to both students and their moms as well as to have enough and appropriate staff to do the planned activities in the healthy way.
