Raising income for 70 single Mom's living in slum

This is project report on raising income for 70 single mom’s living in slum area of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Introduction

Yenegat Birhan Charity organization is a local non-governmental and non-profit charity organization that works on children education, women empowerment and health since 2026.
Therefore, it is the quarterly report in the projects that supporting women in income generating activates and creating awareness on some important social issues.

On this quarter, the organization was working in assisting 70 very poor women to engage in an income generating activities. We were doing follow up for those moms who start income generating activities of both who took 5 day basics business skill training and for those who do not take the training because of the budget constraints.

Our main support areas for moms in the project are supporting women to engaged in income generating activities and to create awareness on some important social issues further more to support them to sending their children to school in a sustainable way.
As our main interventions focused area, income generating activities, though YBCO is working to make a visible difference by way of introducing a sustainable community owned projects through building self-esteem and strong partnership to its stakeholders but lack of working places for the women’s business and the high inflation is making it difficult for them to improve their income still.
We assisted all 76 women in their respected groups by facilitating a one hour meeting every week for each group and providing training and by providing startup capital which was Birr 6000/mom’s. 

Both the training and the start-up donation help them to start the business.                                                       
The following activities were accomplished in this quarter in the women project
We were keeping to follow the moms in their Self-help group /SHG approach as a women empowerment model. The following activities are the performance of 76 women with in five groups. One group contains in average 13 to 17 members. In all their discussion, Yengat Birhan community facilitator is there to help them in their challenges.
We could perform the following activity for this quarter under this project:  
Keep discussed on their varies problems and issue on weekly basses for one hour in their villages  
Saved money from Birr 5 to 20 on weekly basis in order to engage in income generating activities, so as to improve the family life.
Women keep starting small business and others improving their business by using their group money, capital.
Learning and discussing of the family need and related intervention is continuing, In the discussion, the project team is learned specific family need and further discuss the type of future intervention, how it will be implemented and expected role and responsibilities.
The five groups keep saving money regularly and that helps to use for improving income generating activities, the women are using the savings to start\upgrade their business and changing their family life.   
 Moms of the students’ parents were given health education regarding the definition, risk factor, symptoms, complication and preventive measures of addiction of different materials. They had refreshment bread with coffee and tea.
20 Moms of the students’ parents were given parenting skill for 20 children moms. They had Habeshas bread with coffee and tea for refreshment. They took lots of lessons and were appreciative.     
Currently in Ethiopia there are many more mothers who are struggling to raise their children and sending to school in the slum areas of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia because of the inflation.
