Rebuild Lives: Flood Recovery in South Sudan

South Sudan is once again going to experience a devastating flood. Current forecasts from humanitarian and meteorological agencies indicate that severe floods are expected to affect over 4.4 million people between October and December 2025. These floods threaten to submerge large parts of the country, destroying homes, crops, and livelihoods that are already fragile due to years of conflict and climate shocks.

In particular, Aweiil South and surrounding communities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal are among the most at risk. Rising waters from the Lol River and seasonal rainfall are expected to cut off villages, damage farmlands, and displace thousands of families who depend entirely on subsistence farming and livestock.

The Mawoudit Foundation teams on the ground are witnessing early signs of flooding and rising community distress. Local families are already moving livestock and belongings to higher grounds, but most lack safe shelter or emergency supplies.

At Deng Maker Primary School, the rhythm of daily life continues with unwavering hope. Though we do not have new milestones to report, your past support remains the heartbeat of our work. Over 300 children still gather under the shade of trees to learn, to grow, and to dream. Thanks to your generosity, they are not alone in that journey.

We are seeking $500 to provide school uniforms for 150 students. Uniforms do more than provide clothing—they give children dignity, help reduce stigma, and allow every student to feel a true sense of belonging in the classroom.
