Dear Donors,
Thank you for your interest in the Reducing Waterborne Disease in 50 Nigerian Schools project. At this time, no donations have been received, so the planned school-based health and hygiene activities have not yet begun.
Across many rural schools in Nigeria, children face daily exposure to unsafe water and poor sanitation. Many schools lack clean drinking water, functional toilets, and proper hygiene practices. As a result, pupils are at high risk of illnesses such as diarrhoea, cholera, and typhoid.
These conditions affect school attendance and learning. Children who fall sick miss classes, struggle to keep up with lessons, and face repeated health challenges. Girls are also affected when there are no proper facilities to support their hygiene needs, leading to missed school days.
This project is designed to train teachers, students, and school leaders on safe hygiene practices and proper maintenance of sanitation facilities. It will also establish student Health Clubs to promote good habits and peer learning within schools.
With simple improvements like handwashing, clean toilets, and safe water use, schools can reduce illness and create a healthier environment for learning.
We appreciate your time in learning about this effort and remain hopeful that support will come so these schools can begin improving health conditions for their students.
Sincerely,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
