REDRESS CELEBRATES A RECORD-BREAKING GET REDRESSED MONTH

Our annual October campaign, Get Redressed Month, shines a spotlight on the issue of clothing waste, encouraging Hongkongers to rethink how they buy, use and dispose of clothing. Last October, thousands of companies, clubs, schools and individuals across Hong Kong chose to give their unwanted clothes a new life by participating in Hong Kong’s largest clothing drive, and some went even further and gave secondhand clothing a try for the first time!

We were overwhelmed with the out-pouring of support for the campaign from companies, schools and retailers, with many partners returning for the second, third and even fourth time; and new school and company recruits taking part in the clothing drive, hosting educational talks, organising Get Redressed Days and even running their own mini secondhand pop-up stores!

CELEBRATING SUCCESS, OUR 2020 IMPACT

Despite the challenges presented by COVID-19 in 2020, Redress were not slowed in our mission to cut waste out of fashion and we’re proud to share our achievements across our projects from the Redress Design Award to the Circular Fashion Programme in our 2020 Impact Report here.

Get Redressed Month is here!

It's October and our annual consumer campaign, Get Redressed Month is fully underway. This is an annual consumer campaign that aims to encourage Hongkongers to reduce their clothing waste, by donating unwanted items and choosing to shop secondhand.

Give clothes new life!

Thousands of Hong Kongers are already clearing out their wardrobes and donating their unwanted items across the region at over 220 locations. This year we have 120 companies, schools and retailers all participating in our October campaign.

The Get Redressed Clothing Drive is the largest clothing drive in Hong Kong. What makes our clothing drive unique is that our environmental message remains at the heart of the campaign - to promote circularity in fashion and reduce clothing waste. We do not sell clothing overseas for profit and adopt a sustainable operations policy for example, by using plastic alternatives in our logistics. All clothing collected during October will be sorted at our huge sorting event, the Get Redressed Sort-a-thon, and designated for:

Resale by our newly opened secondhand store The Redress Closet, and other partners in the region selling secondhand items.
Reuse by local Hong Kong charities.
Recyled or downcycled in partnership with third parties.

Give secondhand a try!

Shopping secondhand is one of the best ways you can make your wardrobe greener. In Hong Kong, shopping secondhand has yet to reach the popularity heights seen in countries like the UK, Japan or America. This year, we wanted to encourage more Hongkongers to give secondhand shopping a try, and so we collaborated with other secondhand stores in Hong Kong to create a new Secondhand Shopping Directory on our website. We hope that by using our existing platform and connections we can drive more traffic to local secondhand stores.

If you are in Hong Kong, you may even have spotted our shop secondhand posters across the MTR network, which were created in collaboration with our Get Redressed Ambassadors Alex Lam, Minnie Wong and Ellie Furuya.

Dear friends of Redress,

Whilst COVID continues to make its prewsence felt globally, we are fortunate that here in Hong Kong our day-to-day operations have started to normalise.

Volunteer programme returns to full operations

We have been able to offer in-person volunteering sessions, where we sort through clothing that is given to through our city-wide take back programme, and also to sort through the backlog of clothes received during last year's Get Redressed Month campaign. A very welcome return, as our warehouse was starting to get rather full!

Since April we have held twelve sorting sessions with the community, sorted around 15 tonnes of clothing and delivered approx. 10.9 tonnes of clothing to ten charity partners across Hong Kong including Crossroads, Refugee Union, Pathfinders, YWCA, Caritas, Castaways, YWAM, HK Dog Rescue, LAPS and Catherine's Puppies.

Launching Get Redressed Month - October 2021

With the easing of restrictions we have been able to plan for a campaign that allows for more personal interactions, including the return of our signature clothes sorting event, the sort-a-thon. This year our signature clothing drive will also be back in offices and schools once again, and we will continue to work with major retailers to offer drop off locations across the Hong Kong.

Our campaign will continue to call for the reuse of unwanted clothing in order to tackle the environmental impact the fashion industry has on the planet. We will also be shining the spotlight on choosing to buy secondhand clothes here in Hong Kong, a location where currently there are limited options available.
