Naidiri Nursery in Fiji Blooming with Life!   photos by Kelly Dyan

Kelly Dyan is with Austin Bowden-Kerby and Susana Tauyavuca. A happy coral story!
I just spent the past couple of days back in Naidiri Village where I helped Austin, Susana, Manoa, and the youth design and build three shallow water, heat-adapted coral nurseries this past March. It’s been 8 months since I was there and I was really wondering how the corals were doing. When I got in the water and swam to the nurseries, I was so thrilled to see that all of the corals were alive and not just surviving but thriving!
Multiple schools of fish had moved in and made the corals their home. We counted over 500 fish in the 3 nurseries. The corals had grown so much and there were little to no signs of disease or predation. We also found new baby corals growing around the reef. My heart is so happy right now!
Naidiri reef is so inspiring! It gives me hope and confidence that corals can be saved with with proper restoration and maintenance techniques. Dr. Austin Bowden-Kerby’s Reefs of Hope method really is a game changer. Hopefully, this technique can be used throughout the ocean to help save heat-adapted super corals and build stronger heat-resistant coral reefs.
Share the joy & keep saving corals.  Don't miss out on the  2025 GivingTuesday campaign!
