Challenge

Since October 2016, active conflict in the North West and South West Regions has dramatically uprooted more than 500,000 people from their homes in Cameroon, as at December 31st 2018.Government forces and the armed militia groups have conducted large scale arson operations, which have led to the massive destruction of over 170 villages. Some of them are persons with disabilities including children, women and the elderly, who are threatened with survival challenges due to their special needs.

Solution

REWAC's mission centers around empowering vulnerable migrants. Within the context of this conflict, its operations focus more on the ever growing IDP population and has thus leveraged its partnership with local actors to assist 1350 IDPs with life saving food security assistance in the two regions. Now, REWAC will implement a range of activities aimed at empowering the IDPs with disabilities to alleviate the burden of mobility as they strive independently to improve their livelihoods.

Long-Term Impact

50 IDPs with disabilities will directly be empowered to enjoy greater freedom of movement and/or mobility and independence, to lead a financially and dignified life like others. They will have opportunities to make meaningful economic contributions to their families and strive towards the achievement of sustainable livelihood and poverty alleviation. Indirectly, at least 200 family members will benefit from the improved income levels in their home steads through the provision of basic needs.
