This year, Pakistan has experienced one of its most devastating floods in decades. What began as heavy monsoon rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir quickly spread into Punjab, submerging thousands of villages. In Punjab alone, an estimated 4,400 villages and more than 400,000 people have been affected. Homes, crops, and critical infrastructure were destroyed, leaving families displaced and living in overcrowded tents or makeshift shelters. With winter approaching, conditions are worsening, and children and women are particularly vulnerable due to a lack of washrooms, privacy, and protection from the cold.
In response to this humanitarian crisis, AWARD Pakistan has provided targeted relief in the worst-affected districts of Jalalpur Pirwala (Multan), Jhang, and Chiniot, focusing on immediate survival needs and dignity support. In Jalalpur Pirwala, 500 families received 15-day food rations along with dignity kits. In Chiniot, 150 displaced families were provided with tents, bedding, and food supplies in partnership with Pak Aid. Meanwhile, in Jhang, 150 families received 15-day ration packs to help them meet their immediate needs. These interventions have ensured that affected families can access food, shelter, and basic hygiene during this critical period.
Despite these efforts, the scale of the disaster means that urgent needs remain extremely high. Thousands of families continue to lack safe shelter, sanitation, and access to clean water. As temperatures drop, the need for winterization support, safe housing, and WASH facilities becomes increasingly urgent to protect vulnerable populations, particularly children and women, from worsening conditions.
AWARD Pakistan remains committed to scaling up relief efforts and working closely with partners to ensure that flood-affected communities receive the support they need to survive, recover, and rebuild with dignity. Continued support from donors and partners is essential to meet the pressing needs of these vulnerable communities during this ongoing crisis.
