This year, Pakistan has experienced one of its most devastating floods in decades. What began as heavy monsoon rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, GilgitBaltistan, and Kashmir quickly spread into Punjab, submerging thousands of villages and displacing millions. Across the country, the 2025 floods have affected more than 4.5million people, inundated over 4,700 villages, and caused hundreds of deaths as rivers overflowed in central and eastern regions. In Punjab alone, more than 4.7million people have been impacted, with millions displaced from their homes and essential infrastructure, including schools and health facilities, severely damaged.
Homes, crops, and critical infrastructure were destroyed, leaving families displaced and living in overcrowded tents or makeshift shelters. With winter approaching, conditions are worsening, and children and women are particularly vulnerable due to a lack of washrooms, privacy, and protection from the cold.
In response to this humanitarian crisis, AWARD Pakistan has provided targeted relief in the worstaffected districts of Jalalpur Pirwala (Multan), Jhang, and Chiniot, focusing on immediate survival needs and dignity support. In Jalalpur Pirwala, 500 families received 15day food rations along with dignity kits. In Chiniot, 150 displaced families were provided with tents, bedding, and food supplies in partnership with Pak Aid. In Jhang, 150 families received 15day ration packs to help them meet their urgent needs. These interventions have ensured that affected families can access food, shelter, and basic hygiene during this critical period.
Beneficiary feedback highlights the impact of these efforts. One mother in Jalalpur Pirwala shared, “The food and dignity kits brought relief and hope to my family. For the first time since the flood, we felt supported.” In Chiniot, a displaced father explained, “The tents and bedding have given my children safety and warmth. We can now rest at night without fear.” Many families emphasized that timely assistance eased their stress and gave them confidence to face the challenges ahead.
Despite these efforts, urgent needs remain extremely high. Thousands of families continue to lack safe shelter, sanitation, and access to clean water. As temperatures drop, the need for winterization support, warm clothing, and WASH facilities becomes increasingly urgent to protect vulnerable populations, particularly children and women, from worsening conditions.
AWARD Pakistan remains committed to scaling up relief efforts and working closely with partners to ensure that floodaffected communities receive the support they need to survive, recover, and rebuild with dignity. Continued support from donors and partners is essential to meet the pressing needs of these vulnerable communities during this ongoing crisis.
