CRESCA - December

Community Health and Welfare

CRESCA, the animal rescue center, is our current primary emphasis on community health and welfare.

  • In addition to community outreach, maintenance, cleaning, feeding, and care is given to all animals resident at the facility each month.
  • The facility receives stray and injured animals from local authorities and occasionally from community members.
  • In addition, MMB, the local mine, has begun supporting the rescue facility once again, and bringing strays there as necessary.
  • The rescue center population in December was 73 dogs, with four being placed for adoption, no deceased, and 23 sterilized.
  • 5 low cost for pet owners and 18 free in coordination with the Secretariat of Health.  The rescue center regularly places about 50% of its population in adoptions during the year.
  •  Housekeeping and maintenance of the facility occurred as usual, along with replacement of faucets at watering points.
  • Feeding, watering, and veterinary care were given to all residents of the facility.
  • Ivermectin was applied to all pet residents by our veterinarian Uriel Valdez for the control of fleas and ticks
  • Our volunteer veterinarian, Adrian Beltran, arrived to walk dogs once before leaving to Mexicali for the holidays
  • After a complaint to police in San Lucas, we helped to capture and relocate one dogs, who had apparently bitten a child, to CRESCA.
  • As part of our fundraising program, our rescue center provided cremation services for 4 owned dogs that died in the community.
  • Several more refuges were constructed in the kennels in anticipation of winter conditions
  • The electrical generator used in CRESCA for repairs was given maintenance during the month
