Thousands of Nigerian girls are forced into marriage before age 15, often in rural or low-income communities. This project will identify girls at risk, intervene through local contacts, and provide safe shelter, food, legal help, and support to return to school or learn a trade. Each donation helps cover direct rescue costs and give the girl a safe path forward.
In parts of Nigeria, girls as young as 12 are taken out of school and forced into marriage. Many are sold to older men, often without their consent. Once married, they lose control over their education, health, and daily life. Forced marriage exposes them to abuse, early pregnancy, and poverty. Many girls want help but have no way to escape or find protection.
The project will identify girls at risk through local monitors. A trained team will help remove them from dangerous homes or situations and relocate them to a safe location. Once there, each girl receives food, legal support, and a chance to return to school or learn a trade. Follow-up care will help prevent repeat targeting. Each girl is given time, safety, and a real way forward.
Each rescued girl will leave the forced marriage path and gain a safer future. With support, many will return to school, gain skills, or learn trades. This helps reduce the risk of repeated abuse or early pregnancy. As they grow older, some may help protect others in the same situation. The work also helps reduce silence around forced marriage in the community.
