Thousands of stray dogs in Nigeria are abandoned, unwanted, or abused. Many face starvation, disease, or are killed for food. This project will rescue stray dogs, provide shelter, medical care, and safe rehoming. By protecting these animals and giving them a chance to live in safe homes, we can reduce suffering and raise awareness about humane treatment of dogs across communities.
In many Nigerian communities, stray dogs are abandoned, unwanted, or abused. They are left without food, veterinary care, or protection and are often killed or eaten. With no shelters available, these dogs roam streets where they suffer hunger, disease, and violence. The lack of awareness about animal welfare worsens their suffering and shortens their lives.
The project will rescue stray dogs, provide food, medical treatment, and safe shelter. Rescued dogs will be vaccinated, treated for injuries, and placed in adoption programs. Education campaigns will also raise awareness about humane treatment, discouraging violence and dog killing. This combined approach will save lives and create safer environments for both dogs and communities.
With continued rescue and rehoming, more dogs will live safely in homes instead of streets. Communities will benefit from fewer stray dogs, reduced rabies risk, and greater awareness of animal welfare. In subsequent times, attitudes toward dogs will shift, creating more humane treatment and reducing practices such as killing or eating dogs. This project can inspire broader animal protection efforts in Nigeria.
