Let's electrify Chitende!

By Tamra Carlson | Co-Founder

Greetings from Malawi!

Thank you for your continued support of The Cove Collective! While we may not post as many regular updates as usual due to being short staffed on the ground, all of our current programs are still going strong! The school feeding program is continuing to serve over 500 students daily, thanks to your generousity. Additionally, the new kitchen that is being built to support the program is close to being finished. There have been some setbacks in bringing this program to the level of community sustainablity that we were hoping to achieve at this point. Namely the state of the current economic climate in Malawi at the moment: tremendous inflation and highly devalued currency. But even with these setbacks, the community members and school management are still incredibly motivated and devoted to the longevity of the program. So thank you again, for allowing us to keep this program going with your continued financial support!

We are also thrilled to announce a new project that is under way. In the village of Chitende, which is where The Cove Collective had its start and has deep roots, the government is finally promising to bring power. As you can imagine, this brings a lot of hope and excitement into our community. The conditions set forth by the goverment are such that a quota of households will first wire their homes for electricity, however this condition is slightly out of reach for many of the local households. The Collective is forming a new project to help subsidize the cost of wiring homes, as well as hooking up to the grid, once the transformer is brought into the community. Look for more details on this new project next month, as well as a fundraising campaign towards the end of this year. If you are able to share it with your networks once we launch, it would be greatly appreciated and help us maximize our social impact goals!

With the current state of the world, we want to take this opportunity to offer you our deepest heartfelt gratitude. We know there are a lot of causes to support and reasons to feel discouraged about where the world is headed. But we genuinely feel that one of the best ways to spread positive impact in the world is on the community level, as well as the individual level. The work you are doing as a donor, coupled with us on the ground here in our Malawian community is making a difference in the lives of thousands of people. Which will trickle down to many more. So thank you for being part of this incredible journey and being an integral part of our community!

All the best!
