Help Restore Ankpa Nature Forest Today

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear donors,

Thank you for your interest in the work we are doing to restore Ankpa Nature Forest in Kogi State. Even though no donation has been received yet for this project, we remain grateful to everyone who has viewed, shared, or followed the campaign. Your attention alone shows that you understand the seriousness of the environmental crisis facing this community.

The Ankpa forest area has suffered a heavy loss. More than 70 percent of its trees are gone due to years of logging, farming pressure, and the growing need for firewood. This destruction has pushed the land to a breaking point. Animals that once lived freely in the forest have disappeared. Vultures, which help keep the ecosystem clean, are now absent. Families are losing their homes to erosion as the soil becomes weak and loose. Many streams have dried up, and farmland is no longer producing enough food. The heat in the area has grown worse, and community members report health problems linked to the rising temperature.

Our goal is to plant 100,000 native trees across the degraded land, riverbanks, and village compounds. These trees will help restore soil strength, reduce heat, improve water retention, and bring shade back to homes and pathways. By planting fruit trees around houses and community areas, we hope to support nutrition and provide small sources of income as the trees mature. The plan also includes training local people on how to care for newly planted trees and preparing the land before the next rainy season to ensure better survival rates.

At this stage, we cannot begin any work because no funds have been received yet. The cost of clearing land, buying seedlings, hiring workers, and training local volunteers requires support before we can move forward. The need is urgent, especially because tree planting must align with the rainy season to succeed.

We remain committed to this project. With time and with your support, Ankpa can recover its natural strength. Every contribution—no matter the size—will help us take the first real step toward restoring the forest and protecting the future of the community.

With appreciation,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
