Youth are the future. Restoring youth who face what seems like insurmountable circumstances is Triumphant Mercy's call. At our school in Zahle we teach Syrian refugee children, helping this lost generation stay on track. We do this by providing them a safe place to learn, grow and thrive. Our staff work to build not only life skills, but character and an overcoming mindset that will give them a strength to conquer life's difficulties and have some fun and play along the way.
The future for Syrian refugees in Lebanon is bleak. Many of the kids go to work to provide for their families. Hanke's yearly list of most miserable countries ranked Lebanon number three. The effect on the refugees is obvious. These students fight to stay in school avoiding going to work or getting married. Many still work after school or help at home while parents' work. There is no time for fun or connection with others their age. TM works to break this cycle and give them a place to play.
With all this stress and heaviness on these refugee kids they need a place to have fun and be kids. At our school in Zahle we help the kids to develop mind, body, and soul. The school is a safe space where they are encouraged to dream and look beyond circumstances. But when we are stressed and overwhelmed, we don't dream. The sports program that happens during school hours allows these kids to develop skills, grow in character, relieve stress and play. This allows them to return to dreaming.
These refugees are the future of Syria. We don't want to allow them to just be swallowed by the system, we want to help them rise above it, dream, and then giving them the opportunities to be the needed change. Many are cast aside to be lost, but we see those with potential, smarts, and drive to rise above the circumstances. This program gives what all kids need, allowing them to have a place to just be kids then, also giving them a place to run after the future that their minds have imagined.
