Challenge

In Imvepi refugee camp, there is an increasing number of primary school going adolescents girls dropping out of school. 50% of girls marry before the age of 18. Adolescent girls face a challenge of menstruation management mainly because of lack of sanitary pads & basic knowledge about menstrual management thus discouraged girls from attending & staying in school fulltime during their menstruation, increased girls' dropping out of school and placed the girl child at a high risk of child marriage.

Solution

Provide girls basic education on menstruation management via Gender Education Movement clubs monthly & provide local women sewing machines to make reusable sanitary pads to be distributed termly for free to 1200 most vulnerable adolescents girls so they stay in school even during their menstrual period & motivate dropouts to [re]enrol, also provides teenage mothers & school dropouts basic entrepreneurship skills training + startup capital to enable them engage in income generating activities.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide basic education on menstruation management & reusable sanitary pads to 1200 adolescent girls, helping them complete basic primary & join secondary, which will provide fellow girls in OR out of school basic menstruation management techniques. Girls kept in school go on to become part of a larger solution to their community. It will also train 100 teenage mothers & school dropouts, helping them rise out of poverty, which will provide for their families' needs and well-being
