Summary

Rohingya Community School was established in 2009. It is MRA's most extended continuous project. This project aims to provide quality preschool and primary education to Rohingya children in Malaysia. We have opened two RCS; Kuala Lumpur and Kedah. We have assisted 300 Rohingya students in gaining primary education since the establishment of our program 16 years ago. In 2019, we expanded our services to include secondary sponsorships. Thus, realizing our vision of improving access to education.

Challenge

Rohingya are the most persecuted minority in the world. They are denied educational access in Myanmar. While in Malaysia, they still can't access the education system due to their refugee status. Rohingya children have become a lost generation due to the absence of education. Education is a necessary empowerment tool that enables Rohingya children to build a better future for themselves and their community. Thus, RCS sees it necessary to advance sustainable access to education for these kids.

Solution

RCS provides preschool and primary education to Rohingya students in two states, Kuala Lumpur and Kedah. Academic achievement is balanced with the prioritization of co-curricular and character-building programs. Attainment of primary education provides a strong basis for the pursuit of higher learning. From 2019 to 2025, RCS has stayed true to its ethos by establishing a secondary sponsorship program and a secondary pilot class for selected graduates, improving educational access for the needy.

Long-Term Impact

This project provides 250 Rohingya children with a haven to pursue their educational endeavors. Completion of primary education provides better chances for higher education attainment and an independent life. Thus, enabling them to provide for their family's well-being. The secondary sponsorship and pilot class program empowers Rohingya students to continue beyond the primary level. Over time, expanding pathways to higher learning and livelihood opportunities. Ultimately, restoring their dignity
