From First to Foundations

Over the past five years, the Rohingya Community School (RCS) has reached several important milestones, including our first secondary education sponsorships, our first IGCSE graduate, and the launch of a pilot secondary class. These achievements are the result of years spent building stability, protecting learning continuity—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic—and prioritising quality over speed.

As we move forward, RCS is shifting its focus from celebrating first achievements to strengthening the foundations that make long-term educational pathways possible.

Despite a challenging funding landscape, 2025 marked a year of quiet but meaningful progress. A new cohort of students entered secondary education through sponsorship support, our first IGCSE graduate progressed to tertiary studies, and a pilot secondary class was launched in Kedah to test sustainability before expansion.

Continuity remains at the core of RCS’s mission. At the start of 2026, both RCS centres enrolled 187 students, reaching almost 100% capacity. These outcomes reinforce a key lesson: Rohingya children need access with continuity—the ability to stay in school, progress through levels, and complete their education without disruption.

With these milestones achieved, our current priority is consolidation. This includes strengthening

  • Student retention and progression
  • Stabilizing secondary education support to reduce dropout risk
  • Supporting teachers and learning environments
  • Deepening partnerships that enable safe and recognized education pathways.

In 2025, three secondary sponsorship beneficiaries completed their IGCSE and TVET programmes, further demonstrating the impact of sustained support.

As RCS expands into secondary education, capacity building remains essential. In early 2026, students and teachers at RCS Kedah participated in resilience-focused activities, including a three-day outdoor camp for students and trauma-management training for teachers in partnership with a local NGO.

Looking ahead, our goal is secure growth—ensuring every step forward is supported by the systems, funding, and partnerships required to sustain it. The progress we see today rests on foundations built together, guided by a shared belief that every child has the right to learn.

Together, we are turning foundations into futures.
