Every year, thousands of women in Nigeria face life-threatening childbirth due to poor access to medical care and delivery supplies. The Safe Birth Fund by Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research will provide birth kits, maternal nutrition, and skilled delivery support for vulnerable mothers in rural areas. The project will also train birth attendants and equip health centers, helping mothers and babies survive childbirth safely and with dignity.
Many expectant mothers in rural Nigeria deliver at home without trained attendants or sterile supplies. Poor access to hospitals, long travel distances, and high costs make childbirth dangerous. Preventable deaths from bleeding, infection, and poor hygiene remain common. Many women also lack clean delivery kits or postnatal care. This situation leaves thousands of mothers and newborns at serious risk during and after delivery.
This project will supply safe birth kits, delivery gloves, sterile blades, baby wraps, and maternal supplements to health centers. We will train midwives and birth attendants on safe delivery practices and emergency response. Expectant mothers will receive prenatal education and basic medical screening. By supporting clinics with tools and training, the project will help reduce preventable deaths and make childbirth safer for vulnerable mothers.
The Safe Birth Fund will help save lives, reduce infections, and promote skilled delivery in underserved regions. Mothers will receive care with dignity and safety, and trained birth attendants will continue to support communities long after the project ends. Over time, better maternal outcomes will strengthen families, lower infant mortality, and improve trust in rural healthcare facilities across Nigeria's most vulnerable areas.
