Today I want to share about the staffs behind AGAPE Association. They take care of the street and vulnerable kids the AGAPE center cares for in a way and with a love that simply amazes sometimes. They don’t have their names in all the AGAPE documents like I do but they, for sure have it on AGAPE kids’ hearts and a tremendous place in their lives.
For example, Germain’s main duty is to take care of the dormitory children. He has a training in psychology. Germain is behind the order seen at AGAPE. He most of the time looks like if he is smiling. The boys in the center look at him like a big brother, an uncle or a very strict adult at times. He has such a big strength in making the children talk. He makes sure they follow the rules he managed to draw with the sometimes naughty children the AGAPE kids used to be. Gemain does so much more than taking care of the children. He seconds me or replaces me in meetings, in e-mail responses, in the center when visitors/volunteers come to find out what we are doing. He helps with the finances, he is a strong link between the AGAPE center and the relatives of the children cared for, he pays the schools, he pays the bills, he takes the children to the hospital when they are sick… and so much more.
I wonder sometimes what drives Germain? I have the same thought about Charlie who is involved in all the administrative tasks, children tutoring, fundraising correspondences, fastidious grant applications filling and so much more.
Last, but not least, Ruth has been working with me at AGAPE since we starting and did not even have a pot or a cooker. Every donated bag of rice was a victory. Ruth is the “Mommy” of AGAPE, only because she cooks, but also because she really treats AGAPE kids like her own’s
Germain, Charlie and Ruth are so dedicated that I keep wondering what drives them? Is-it the pretty average salary they are paid in a small and young organization like AGAPE in Douala? No it cannot be only that.
Your donations, backed up with these industrious, loving, dedicated, committed staff makes a “home” of the AGAPE Center. A home, those children who used to be in the street come today early in the morning with joy and find the strength, peace and joy to move on toward a future where we can now all have hope.
We have attached the newsletter to let give you more details on what we have been up to lately.
Thank you for your attention. We reallywould like to hear back from you. Please send feed backs, comments and suggestions to help us improve and change more lives together!
