The third quarter of the year in AGAPE Center

The results of the school year 2016 - 2017

This period of year was marked by a series of events starting with the publication of the end-of-year results and the results of the official examinations, the Stagiaires sans Frontières stay and the partnership with the association called Missions Values. Continuing with the visit of the young people to the Maritime Museum of Douala, through the passages of the Evangelical Assembly of the Brothers of Cameroon and the Clubs of the Lions Club Orchidée & Jouvence. This ends with a few donations involved in preparing for the school year and the actual return of the young people to the school.

The results have fallen and a lot more fear than pain. The young people of the center have overwhelmed their challenges. The common entrance examination was not an easy task to guarantee a place in a public institution for those in primary school. But for the first school living certificate (CEP), it was a 100%. For those in secondary school who were in intermediate classes, we have a success rate of 88%. About Désiré, he finished first in his class with an annual average of 14, 55, an honour’s roll and some textbooks for the next school year. And for those who where in 3^ème, we had a success rate of 66%, with two Certificate (BEPC) and two entrance to the next class.

As in the past four years, AGAPE has again welcomed a new wave of Stagiaires Sans Frontières this summer. Namely Charlotte, Mathilde and Fabien, dynamic, motivated and very determined. Committed to helping AGAPE by encouraging meetings with potential partners. And as usual, pleasant moments of exchange and sharing, whereby we try even during holidays, to always combine the useful with the pleasant. This through the revision of small notions of french, Cameroon history, football games, painting, soccer games and many others.

Adama Traore-wega the President of AGAPE association and Arnaud Thomée President of Mission Values association, in full signature of the partnership agreement. Missions Values is an association devoted to the education and training of young people. It brings together a number of organizations and their projects. One of its goals is to raise funds to help its various partners to obtain finances for their projects.

These are the holidays, and Corinne a volunteer teaching french lessons to the young people of the center, decided to offer them this outing. It was marvelous and the young people were able to learn things about boats, training, piloting, survival suits and many more.

L’Assemblée évangélique des frères au Cameroun (AEFC) has set up a camp for the young people of their parish, in order to allow them to visit, meet and exchange with other young people taken in charge by various organizations, associations and orphanages. So they arrived at the AGAPE Center. It was a question of them helping the children and teenagers, to realize how lucky they are compared to others kids; in order to encourage them to cultivate the generosity and the sense of sharing withothers. The young people of the Church interfered for a short time, in the daily life of those of AGAPE.

The various Lions Club clubs usually visit the AGAPE Center. This time, AGAPE had the honor of receiving two Clubs at the same time. These clubs never come empty-handed. And for the occasion, they came with two psychologists to talk to the young people about addictions, drugs and their devastating effects; but also about the role of psychologists, therapies and their abilities to help people in difficulty get better. It was a very enriching moment.

The support given to the Center and its young people by Mrs. Kadji. But also by David and his brother and some young ladies as well for the next school year. They brought school bags, notebooks, rulers and pens. At least, the minimum that a young person needs to go to school.

The young people of the Center are ready for the next nine months of school and especially very determined to repeat or even improve the performance of the last school year.

The second trimester of the year 2017 at AGAPE

''Au ministere du soya'' at the Goethe Institute

The AGAPE Center and its youth had a series of important events during this second quarter of the year. Between the accession to higher education and success at official exams, the fair organized by Soleil Partage Cameroun, the charity cocktail of Zik 4 All (Save the Music), the performance of the theatrical play at the Goethe Institute in Yaoundé and The spring market to name just a few.

The AGAPE association collaborates with other associations and organizations. This is the case of the Soleil Partage Cameroon association, which fights against poverty and militates in favor of sustainable development. The association is currently working on the rehabilitation of ‘‘L’école publique des Garçons de Bonapriso''. To this end, several meetings were held, with the participation of AGAPE, to organize the fund-raising fair to continue the project. The young people of the Center AGAPE were thus put to contribution on May 3, playing the role of monitors of the various workshops during the fair at the American school of Douala. We were able to appreciate a great sense of responsibility on their part.

Among the extra-curricular activities offered to the young people of the AGAPE Center, we have music classes. The association Zik 4 All, which volunteers these courses, wanted to celebrate the AGAPE Center and the New Destiny Orphanage, as well as all the young people to whom they teach music courses. This is done through the Save the Music event, punctuated by various musical performances by young learners and young Cameroonian artists. The aim is to sensitize both to the cause of the sensitive layers and to generate their generosity for the support of the two organizations and their projects.

Finally the 17 June! The big day arrived for the AGAPE centre youth. Because winning the discovery prize in the theatre category, they went to Yaoundé and it was at the Goethe Institute that they performed their play. It was a short but pleasant two-day stay in the political capital of the country. The youth were exceptional and their remarkable acting touched the audience. Some people even confided that they acted as well as, if not better, than professionals. They were able to share some pure moments of happiness during which they were able to strengthen the bonds that unite them. And it was, above all, an extraordinary experience that will remain forever in their memories. These youth are definitely ready for a national and international tour! The AGAPE Centre took part in the spring market on 3^rd June in the Eneo gardens in Bonanjo. AGAPE had a stand and displayed its various products (chips, ‘‘foléré/bissap’’ and baobab juice….) and much more. It was also the opportunity to talk about the association, the centre and its activities.

The holidays have begun and it’s time to breathe, have fun and say goodbye to the pressure of the last nine months in the classroom. It is with this in mind that Julie, a professional hairdresser and owner of a hair salon in France, offered to come and cut the youth hair on 12 June, giving free rein to their imagination. Julie also showed her support for the centre by organising a hairdressing day, at the end of which the profits were donated to the AGAPE Centre.

On the 12^th June, Barakah got a year older and she wanted to share this happy moment by spending a part of her day with the AGAPE youth. In the same week, she decided on 17 June, to make the music video for the song ‘‘Je m’accroche à lui’’. It was a great day of filming and everybody was able to see that making a music video is not as simple as it looks, with it needing many takes. All in all, everybody was happy.

Quest, acquisition and security of the land

The year at the AGAPE Center began peacefully. Everyone was able to enjoy in one way or another the festivities linked to end of year and new year. After the euphoria of the holidays, the return to routine business.

AGAPE started the year intensively. In its keen prospect of perpetuating its work and its actions, AGAPE association in partnership with French association SOLENCA, have invested in prospecting for a plots of land that can promote the realization of this project. This is to build a new larger, better adapted, more functional center capable of accommodating more children in distress and on the street. Thanks for the efforts of SOLENCA, friends, supporters of AGAPE and especially to Globalgiving and its donors. This quest resulted in 2016 in the acquisition of a plot of land of about 1,500 m² in Japoma. And today, it is our duty to build the new center. Thus in January, AGAPE association was visited by two members of SOLENCA association to finalize the plans that will be used for the construction of the future center. But also to lead together reflections and develop strategies favorable to the raising of funds necessary for the realization of this project.

The HHH of Douala (group of sporting) had organized a sporting and solidarity march for the young people of AGAPE association. And the children participated in the occasion on February 18, 2017. And they brought essential products for the kids. This, thanks to Antonina who is a volunteer in AGAPE association and a HHH member.

AGAPE Youth once again gave a performance of their play '' Au Ministère du Soya '' at la Maison des jeunes et des cultures at New Bell. Winner of the Goethe Institute's Discovery Award in the theater category, they continue to perform their shows until 17 May at the Goethe Institute and 19 May at the AMT in Yaoundé.

On Saturday, March 25th, the AGAPE Center was visited by a medical team in order to bring the youth to a consultation. At the end of consultation, a prescription was made for each child. The drugs prescribed to meet their different needs were immediately delivered on 28 March.

The results have fallen and it is the status quo for some and an improvement for others. Although the improvement is still insufficient to obtain an average greater than or equal to 10. For others still the difficulty seems insurmountable. But we are optimistic and will double up so that all these young people go to higher classes and pass their exams.
