Safe Classrooms: End Bullying in Schools

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors and friends,

Thank you for your generosity and commitment to protecting children and promoting safe learning environments. Your support helps schools take meaningful steps toward ending bullying and abuse.

Bullying and abuse remain serious challenges in Nigerian schools, affecting students’ safety, confidence, and academic performance. Studies show that a large number of children experience physical, verbal, psychological, and even sexual violence before adulthood. Fear, silence, and lack of clear reporting systems allow these harmful behaviors to continue unchecked. The “Safe Classrooms: Help Students End Bullying & Abuse” project aims to change this reality by equipping both teachers and students with the skills to recognize, prevent, and respond to bullying and abuse.

The project will work with 50 schools across Nigeria, training 200 teachers and engaging 2,000 students through workshops that promote respect, empathy, and healthy behavior. Peer-led support clubs will be established in each school, creating safe spaces for students to speak up and support one another. Schools will also receive materials and guidance to sustain awareness and reporting systems beyond the project period.

Although the progress made so far is promising, further support is required to kickstart this impactful project. With continued backing, this initiative will help create safer classrooms, improve student wellbeing, and inspire wider action against bullying and abuse nationwide.

Warm regards,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
