Dear Supporters,
We would like to share an important early update from the field as our campaign begins its first phase.
Our team at Freedom Jasmine has recently conducted an initial needs assessment in Daraya, Syria, focusing on some of the most vulnerable families — households led by widowed mothers, wives of detainees, and women who have carried the full responsibility of their families through years of conflict and displacement.
The findings are both urgent and deeply concerning.
As families begin returning to their homes after years of displacement, many are finding that what they left behind is no longer livable. Our assessment identified more than 50 women-headed households currently living in homes that are partially or completely uninhabitable.
These homes have suffered years of damage — from exposure, neglect, and the lasting impact of conflict. What once were safe spaces are now structurally unsafe, with damaged walls, broken roofs, and conditions that pose serious risks to families, especially children.
The women we met are showing incredible resilience. They have returned determined to rebuild their lives, often with very limited resources. However, the reality they face is harsh — returning home has not meant stability, but rather a new set of challenges.
At this stage, the needs range from basic repairs such as fixing roofs, doors, and windows, to full reconstruction in cases where homes are no longer safe to inhabit.
Without timely support, these families remain at risk of:
We are currently reviewing these findings carefully to determine the most effective way to respond and ensure that your support creates meaningful and lasting impact.
We will continue to keep you updated as the next steps of the campaign take shape.
Thank you for standing with these families at such a critical time.
